Rajinikanth Entry: Will it stir the politics of Tamil Nadu?

"Everything has already been done by me. All you have to do is to shoot the arrow". With a calmly smile on his face, Rajinikanth quoted these lines from the Gita to the cheering crowds of fans and supporters on the much awaited last day of 2017. He then spoke of "correcting the System" and revealed his intent to launch a new party and contest in all the 234 seats in the next State Assembly election that is three years away. The Super Star then appealed to all his fans to always speak good and do good, as usual.

While this announcement cleared the 'suspense' over the Super Star's future plans, the bare minimal nature of it in it has made the political Pundits and the general public to run into wild speculations about it, reading all kinds of "messages". Some leaders of the Tamil Nadu BJP explicitly welcomed his entry, while the mainstream DMK and ADMK just had a causal, neutral response, on the lines of "Every Indian citizen has a right to start a new party, our organization is very strong and firm and feels noway perturbed by such a development".  The small time fringe outfits espousing chauvinism and regionalism have vehemently spoken against Rajini, predictably.

So, what is to be made out of this announcement and its probable real effect, in the future politics of Tamil Nadu?

Rajini promised to usher in "spiritual politics" (aanmeeka arasiyal) transcending the boundaries of caste and religion in his announcement. His life story of having risen up to the top of stardom from very poor and humble background, coupled with this spiritual aura strikes a genuine charisma cutting across sections of the society. His personal and professional integrity in the Tamil film Industry circles is well known. This has already created a robust image of a man who is incorruptible and is ever willing to put the welfare of the poor and common people above his self interest. The erstwhile Bengaluru  bus conductor image of Rajinikanth very much resembles the erstwhile Jamnagar Tea seller image of Narendra Modi. This is an advantage of that none of his probable political contenders can claim to have.

But for a one time aberration of overtly supporting DMK even in the aftermath of 1998 Coimbatore bomb blasts, Rajini has always stood on the side of supporting Indian nationalism. He has openly expressed his Hindu religious affinity by sporting Hindu religious symbols and advising his ardent fans to indulge in Dhyana and Bhakti practices. On this count, he is a refreshing contrast  to the comical hypocrisy of many Dravidian party politicians, some of them denouncing Hinduism outright while appeasing "minorities". Brahmin hatred is a pet theme of many Tamil politicians of all hues, even writers, artists and media personalities. This is thanks to the skewed racist discourse of the Dravidian movement. It goes to the credit of Rajinikanth that he has never indulged in such hate speech, though it would have won him some favors and accolades in the overall climate of the state. So, even though Rajini has not given any hints about his chosen political ideology, it is believed that it will certainly be a form of 'soft Hindutva', much closer to the BJP ideology than any other parties.

The remarkable identity mix of Rajinikanth, of being born in a Marathi family as Shivajirao Gaikwad, growing up in Karnataka and attaining stardom among Tamils - this in itself is a great tribute to National Integration and the idea of a United India. The 'problem' of Rajini being not native to Tamil Nadu is pepped up only by the fringe groups at present. It is never an issue for mainstream parties and people.

The caste politics of Tamil Nadu has always been an important factor in the electoral victories of both ADMK and DMK. But, it is more of a back stage drama and is never spoken openly in the political discourse of Tamil Nadu unlike the other South Indian states, where the "strength" of caste groups like Lingayats and Kapus is a subject that is openly discussed in TV shows. In Tamil Nadu politics, what comes to the foreground is the charisma of the strong leader, like Karunanidhi, MGR or Jayalalitha and the caste equation factors only in the ticket distribution, giving proportionate share to all the castes. It is to be noted that none of the above mentioned leaders were from dominant castes of Tamil Nadu. Given this history, if Rajini's charisma works the same magic, combined with the practical caste calculation born out of realpolitik, he has much brighter chance of capturing the imagination of Tamil Nadu voters. Because no other political leader, be it Stalin or OPS or EPS or anyone, has such a charisma like Rajini.

It is well known that Rajini has been hinting his political ambition on and off screen right since the start of 1990s, with sudden hypes and scenes of euphoria about his "entry" and the subsequent drubbing off and frustration of the hype being a "false alarm". Though there is a well established network of fan clubs ("Rasikar mandram") in every Taluk of the state with a decent membership of local youth, turning this into a political party work force remains a very big challenge. We already have many examples of failure in this context, like the Telugu actor Chiranjeevi. Rajini and his new party have to put a lot of hard work on this count.

Overall, Rajini's announcement has already stirred the political debate in Tamil Nadu. Lets hope it will bring positive development to the state.

நலம். நலமறிய அவா. நாட்டின் தலைவராகிய நீங்கள் உடல்நலம் தேறி தங்கள் வழக்கமான பணிகளில் ஈடுபடுவது மகிழ்ச்சியளிக்கிறது. உற்சாகத்துடன் தேர்தல் பிரசாரத்தில் கூட பங்கெடுத்துக் கொள்ள ஆரம்பித்திருக்கிறீர்கள். வாழ்த்துக்கள்.

நேற்று காங்கிரஸ் தேர்தல் அறிக்கை வெளியீட்டு நிகழ்ச்சியில் நீங்கள் தான் காங்கிரஸ் கூட்டணியின் அதிகாரபூர்வ வேட்பாளர் என்று சோனியா காந்தி அறிவித்தார். உடனே தேர்தல் சரவெடி ஒன்று உதிர்க்க வேண்டும் என்று எண்ணிவிட்டீர்கள் போலிருக்கிறது. வேறு ஏதோ ஒரு தொடர்பில்லாத கேள்விக்கு பதிலாக “அத்வானி இந்த தேச நலனுக்கு என்ன செய்திருக்கிறார்?” என்று கேட்டு அதிர வைக்கிறீர்கள்! வழக்கமாக மிக மென்மையாகவும், அமர்ச்சையுடனும் பேசும் நீங்கள் அப்போது மிகவும் படபடப்பாக இருந்தீர்கள்.

ஐயா, இதே கேள்வியை நேருக்கு நேர் ஒரு தொலைக்காட்சி விவாத்தில் அத்வானிஜியிடம் நின்று முகம் கொடுத்து, உங்களால் கேட்க முடியுமா?

நீங்கள் மேடையில் மந்தகாசத்துடன் அமர்ந்திருக்க, சோனியா காந்தி சொல்கிறார் – “பிரதமர் ஆவதற்கு யார் யாரோ ஆசைப் படுகிறார்கள். ஆனால் அவர்கள் ஒருவர் கூட டாக்டர் மன்மோகன் சிங் முன்பு நிற்க முடியாது” என்று.

எப்படி நிற்க முடியும்? உங்களுக்கு எதிராக நிற்பதற்கு நீங்கள் வாய்ப்பு கொடுத்தால் தானே நிற்க முடியும்? மக்களவைத் தொகுதி ஒன்றில் நின்று போட்டியிடுவதற்கு உங்களுக்கு விருப்பம் இல்லையா அல்லது அந்த அஸ்ஸாம் தொகுதி மீது ஏதாவது கோபமா அல்லது காங்கிரசின் பிடி தளர்ந்துவரும் அந்த மாநிலத்தில் விளைவு என்னாகுமோ என்று எண்ணித் தயக்கமா, புரியவில்லை, அந்தத் தொகுதியின் ராஜ்யசபை பிரதிநிதியாகவே இருந்து வருகிறீர்கள். ஏதேனும் காரணம் இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் அதை சோனியா காந்தி இப்படியா போட்டுடைக்க வேண்டும்? இந்த குரூர இத்தாலிய அங்கதம் உங்களுக்கும் புரிந்திருக்கும். ஆனாலும் அப்படி அமைதியாக இருக்கிறீர்களே!

வாக்குச் சீட்டில் மக்களைச் சந்திப்பதற்கே இவ்வளவு யோசிக்கும் நீங்கள் விவாதத்தில் மக்களை எதிர்கொள்வீர்கள் என்றெல்லாம் எதிர்பார்ப்பது கொஞ்சம் அதிகம் தான்.

அத்வானி இந்த தேச நலனுக்கு என்ன செய்திருக்கிறார்?

கடல் நீரை அளவிட முடியாது என்று உங்களுக்கும் தெரியும். பேச்சுக்கு ஒன்றே ஒன்று. இந்த தேசத்தின் ஒவ்வொரு தனிமனிதனின் சுதந்திரத்தையும் எமர்ஜென்சி என்ற பெயரில் உங்கள் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி சிறையிட்டுப் பூட்டிய அந்த நான்கு வருடங்களும், தன் வாழ்வின் அத்தனை சுகங்களையும் மறந்து கொடுஞ்சிறையின் நான்கு சுவர்களுக்குள் வாடியிருக்கிறார் ஐயா அத்வானி. இன்று நீங்களும் நானும் அனுபவிக்கும் இந்த சுதந்திரம், எந்த அச்சுறுத்தலும் இல்லாமல் தேர்தலில் நீங்கள் இன்று கேள்வி கேட்கும் இந்த ஜனநாயக உரிமை நமக்குக் கிடைப்பதற்காக. இன்றைக்கு உங்கள் பிரதமர் பதவியையே உறுதி செய்கிறதே இந்திய அரசியல் சாசனம், அந்த சாசனம் மீறப்பட்டபோது, மிதிக்கப் பட்டபோது, அதன் மாண்பை மீட்பதற்காக. (சமீபத்தில் இது பற்றி அவர் தன் இணையதளத்தில் எழுதியும் இருக்கிறார்) என் தலைமுறைக்கே இது தெரியும் போது நீங்கள் எப்படி மறந்தீர்கள்?

அத்வானி தீவிர வாசகர், நிறைய படிக்கவும் செய்வாராம். ஆனால் 1000+ பக்கங்கள் அவர் வாழ்க்கை வரலாற்றை எழுதி இருக்கிறாரே, அதிலும் “என் தேசம், என் வாழ்க்கை” என்று சொல்கிறாரே, இப்படி ஒரு கேள்வியைக் கேட்பதற்கு முன் அதன் சுருக்கத்தையாவது படித்துப் பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்று உங்களுக்குத் தோன்றவில்லையா ஐயா? நீங்கள் ஆக்ஸ்போர்டு பல்கலைக் கழகத்தில் கற்ற அறிஞர் என்பதையும் நாடறியும்.

”நலன்” பற்றிக் கேட்கிறீர்கள். இன்றைக்கு இந்தியாவிலேயே மிகச் சிறந்த அளவில் மக்கள் நலத் திட்டஙகளை செயல்படுத்தும் மாநில அரசுகள் பாஜக அரசுகள் தான் என்பதும் மத்திய அரசை நடத்தி வரும் உங்களுக்குத் தெரியாததல்ல. ஒவ்வொரு கிராமத்திற்கும் தடையில்லாத மின்சாரம் கிடைக்கச் செய்த குஜராத் அரசின் “ஜோதிர்கிராம்” திட்டமாகட்டும், குழந்தைகளின் நலன் பேணும் மத்தியப் பிரதேச அரசின் அற்புதமான “லாட்லி லக்‌ஷ்மி யோஜனா”வாகட்டும், பெண்கல்வியை மிகப் பெரிய அளவில் மாநிலமெங்கும் கொண்டு சென்ற முந்தைய ராஜஸ்தான் அரசின் சாதனையாகட்டும். இவற்றைத் தந்த தலைவர்களை உருவாக்கிய மகா தலைவர் அல்லவா அத்வானி? தலைமை என்பது ஒரு எக்ஸிக்யூட்டிவ் பதவி மட்டும் அல்ல, அது பல சுடர்களை உருவாக்கும் ஒரு ஒளிப்பிழம்பு.

தில்லி, வாரணாசி, பெங்களூர், மும்பை, சம்ஜௌதா எக்ஸ்பிரஸ், மாலேகாவ், ஹைதராபாத், உத்திரப் பிரதேசம், ஜெய்பூர், அகமதாபாத் என்று 13 பெரிய அளவிலான ஜிகாதி தீவிரவாதத் தாக்குதல்கள் உங்கள் ஐந்தாண்டு ஆட்சிக் காலத்தில் நிகழ்ந்துள்ளன. ஏறக்குறைய ஆயிரம் இந்தியர்கள் இவற்றில் கொடுமையாக பலியாகியுள்ளனர்.

2004 முதல் 2008ன் இறுதி வரை இந்தக் கொடூரத் தாக்குதல்களைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்தவும், இவற்றில் ஈடுபட்ட குற்றவாளிகளை வேட்டையாடித் தண்டிக்கவும் ஒரு உருப்படியான நடவடிக்கையைக் கூட, சிறிதளவும் உங்கள் அரசு எடுக்கவில்லை. 26/11 மும்பை தாக்குதலுக்குப் பிறகு தான் உலுக்கினாற்போல விழித்துக் கொண்டு அடிப்படையான பாதுகாப்பு உள்கட்டமைப்பு விஷயங்களைப் பற்றி யோசிக்கவே ஆரம்பிக்கிறது அரசு. எத்தகைய கிரிமினல்தனமான மெத்தனம்!

ஆனால் இந்தத் தேர்தல் பிரசாரத்தில், தீவிரவாத்தைப் பற்றி எழும் ஒவ்வொரு விவாத்த்திலும், இதற்கு முன்பு வாஜ்பாய் ஆட்சிக் காலத்தில் பாராளுமன்ற தாக்குதல் நடக்கவில்லையா? கண்டஹார் விமானக் கடத்தல் நடக்கவில்லையா என்பதையே மொண்ணைத் தனமாகக் கேட்கிறீர்களே, இதற்கு என்ன பொருள்? அப்போது சில இந்தியர்கள் மாண்டார்களே, இப்போது அதைப் போல 10 மடங்கு இந்தியர்கள் தான் மடிந்திருக்கிறார்கள்..நீங்களூம் கொஞ்சம் செத்துப் போனால் தான் என்னவாம் என்று மக்களைக் கேட்கிறீர்களா? அதுவும், பாராளுமன்றத் தாக்குதலுக்காக மரண தண்டனை விதிக்கப் பட்ட அப்சலின் தண்டனையை நிறைவேற்றக் கூட வக்கில்லாத ஒரு அரசின் சார்பாக? ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் தீவிரவாதத் தொடர்பு என்ற சந்தேகத்தின் பேரில் கைது செய்யப் பட்ட முகமது ஹனீஃபின் குடும்பத்தினரை டிவியில் பார்த்து “அன்று இரவு முழுக்க எனக்குத் தூக்கம் வரவில்லை” என்று தழுதழுத்த குரலில் உருக்கமாக சொன்னீர்கள். ஆனால் இந்தத் தீவிரவாத்த் தாக்குதல்களில் தங்கள் துணையை, குழந்தைகளை, சுற்றத்தாரை, நண்பர்களை இழந்த இந்தியக் குடிமக்களான தாயருக்கும், தந்தையருக்கும், மக்களுக்கும் அதே போன்று அழுத்தமாக ஆறுதல் சொல்ல வேண்டும் என்று உங்களுக்கு ஏன் தோன்றவில்லை? உங்களுக்கே வெளிச்சம். ஆனால் இதெல்லாம் இந்த்த் தேர்தல் நேரத்தில் மக்களுக்கு மறந்து விடவில்லை என்பது நினைவிருக்கட்டும்.

“அத்வானியின் ஒரே சாதனை பாபரி மசூதியை இடித்ததில் பங்கு வகித்த்து தான்” என்று இன்னொரு முத்தையும் உதிர்த்திருக்கிறீர்கள். அந்த பாப்ரி அமைப்பு மசூதி அல்ல, அங்கு தொழுகை நின்று போய் நூற்றுக் கணக்கான ஆண்டுகள் ஆகிறது, ராம நாம பஜனை தான் 50 ஆண்டுகளாக நடந்து வருகிறது. எல்லா அரசு ஆவணங்களும், நீதிமன்றக் குறிப்புகளிலும் கூட “சர்ச்சைக்குரிய கட்டிடம்” (disputed structure) என்று தான் சொல்லப் படுகிறது. இதெல்லாம் உங்களுக்கு நன்றாகவே தெரியும்.

ஜெயமோகன் என்று ஒரு சிறந்த தமிழ் எழுத்தாளர் இருக்கிறார். சமீபத்தில் “அரசியல் சரிநிலைகள்” என்று ஒரு கட்டுரை எழுதியிருந்தார். அதில், ஒரு மலையாளக் கதை பற்றிக் குறிப்பு வரும். சோஷலிச சார்பு உடைய, அதே சமயம் நேர்மைக்கும், நடுநிலைக்கும் பெயர்போன சுயநலமற்ற ஒரு மூத்த தலைமுறை பத்திரிகையாசிரியர். 1992ல் அந்தச் செய்தி வரும்போது, உதவியாசிரியர்கள் நாளிதழின் முதல்பக்கச் செய்தியாக ‘சர்ச்சைக்கிடமான கட்டிடம் இடிக்கப்பட்டது’ என்று சரியாக அச்சு கோர்த்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஆசிரியர் ஒருகணம் யோசித்து விட்டு அதை எடுத்து வெட்டிவிட்டு ‘பாபர் மசூதி இடிக்கப்பட்டது’ என்று செய்தியை மாற்றுகிறார். இது தான் கதை. இதன் வரலாற்று விளைவுகளை அந்தக் கட்டுரையில் பின்னர் ஜெயமோகன் அலசுகிறார்.

சட்டத்தின் கண்ணியத்தைக் காக்க வேண்டிய மிக உயர்ந்த பொறுப்பில் இருக்கும் நீங்கள், நாட்டின் தலைவிதியை நிர்ணயிக்கும் தேர்தல் மேடையில் நின்று கொண்டு இந்தத் தருணத்தில் பாபர் *மசூதி* என்று சொல்கிறீர்களே? அதற்கு என்ன பொருள்? இதன் உள்நோக்கம் என்ன?

இந்த்த் தேர்தல் கடந்த காலத்தின் காயங்களைக் கிளறுவதோ, ஆறிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் வடுக்களை மறுபடிக் கீறுவதோ பற்றியது அல்ல என்பதை நினைவில் கொள்ளுங்கள். அப்படிச் செய்வதாயிருந்தால் ஏன் பாப்ரியோடு நிறுத்த வேண்டும்? 1984ல் தில்லியில் நடந்த சீக்கியப் படுகொலை பற்றியும் பேசலாம். பல மாநிலங்களில் காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சிக் காலத்தில் கட்டவிழ்த்து விடப் பட்ட மதக்கலவரங்களைப் பற்றியெல்லாம் பேசவேண்டியிருக்கும். வேண்டாமே!

பொருளாதாரம், தேசப் பாதுகாப்பு, மக்கள் நலம் ஆகிய எந்த விஷயத்திலும் பாஜகவை குற்றம் சாட்டவோ, பாஜக மீது விரல் நீட்டவோ எந்த முகாந்திரமும் இல்லை என்று உங்களுக்கே தெரிந்திருக்கிறது. அதனால் தான் “மதவாதக் கட்சி” என்று ஊசிப்போன உளுத்தை வாத்த்தை இந்த நேரத்தில் கையில் எடுக்கிறீர்கள். இது தான் உண்மை, இல்லையா?

இந்தத் தேர்தல் இப்போது எரிந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் பிரசினைகளைப் பற்றியதாகவே இருக்க வேண்டும், அப்படியே இருக்கும். நாட்டின் பொருளாதாரம் பாதாளத்தை நோக்கிச் சென்று கொண்டிருக்கிறது. பணவீக்கம் (inflation) பூஜ்யத்திற்கும் கீழே போய் பணப் பிதுங்கல் (deflation) வரும் அபாயகரமான நிலை ஏற்பட்டிருக்கிறது, உலக அளவில் எல்ல நாடுகளும் பொருளாதார நெருக்கடிகளைச் சமாளிக்க புதியவகை நடவடிக்கைகளை எடுத்து வந்தபோது, உஙக்ளைப் போன்ற ஒரு பொருளாதார நிபுணர் தலைமையில் இயங்கும் அரசு, ரிமோட் கண்ட்ரோல் நெருக்கடிகளால் எந்த நடவடிக்கையும் எடுக்காமல், நிலைமை தானாக சீரடையும் என்ற கரும்பாறை நிலையில் நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது. உலக நாடுகளின் அரசுகள் ஊக்கத் திட்டங்கள் (stimulating packages) தீட்டி வந்த சமயத்தில், உங்கள் அரசு தன் “சாதனைகளை”ப் பற்றி செய்தித் தாள்களில் விளம்பரங்கள் மட்டும் அளித்து ஊடகங்களை மட்டும் ஊக்குவித்து வந்தது!

வாஜ்பாய் அரசு ஆரம்பித்த தேசிய நெடுஞ்சாலைத் திட்டம் போன்று மிகப் பெரிய வேலைவாய்ப்பு உருவாக்கும் திட்டங்களை உங்கள் அரசு இழுத்து மூடியது. அது ஒன்றும் மதவாத அஜெண்டா இல்லையே, அனைத்து மக்களும் பயன்பெறும் சீரிய செக்யுலர் திட்டம் தானே.. பழங்கால மன்னர்கள் பஞ்ச காலத்தில் தான் பெரிய கோயில்களும், அரண்மனைகளும் கட்டுவார்கள். ஏனென்றால் வேலைவாய்ப்பு பெருக வேண்டும், மக்கள் கையில் பணம் சென்றடைய வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக. லக்னோவின் இமாம்பாராவும்,ஜோத்பூர் அரண்மனையும் அப்படிக் கட்டப் பட்டவை தான். இந்தப் பழைய பொருளாதாரம் (old economics) உங்களைப் போன்ற ஒரு நிபுணருக்கு எப்படி மறந்து போயிற்று?

இதன் விளைவுகள் பயங்கரமான இருக்கின்றன. ஏராளமானோர் வேலையிழந்து வருகின்றனர். ஏற்றுமதி இறக்குமுகத்தில் இருக்கிறது. எல்லா தொழில்துறைகளும் திணறிக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. இதைச் சீர்செய்வதற்காக உங்கள் கட்சியிடம் உருப்படியாக ஒரு திட்டமும் இல்லை. ஒப்பீட்டில் பா.ஜ.க தெளிவான, தீர்க்கமான செயல்திட்டங்களை தேர்தல் அறிக்கையில் முன்வைத்திருக்கிறது.

உதாரணமாக, பா.ஜ,கவின் ஐ.டி துறை முன்னேற்ற வளர்ச்சித் திட்ட ஆவணம்

எல்லாவற்றும் அடிப்படையான தேவை தலைமை. இந்தத் தேர்தலில் மிக மிக முக்கியமான கேள்வி அது தான்.

ஒருபுறம் உறுதியான, தீர்க்கமான முடிவுகளை சுயமாக எடுக்கும் தலைமை நிற்கிறது. இன்னொரு புறம், தலைமை என்ற பண்புக்கு மகா சுமாரான மாற்றாக, உங்கள் “வாடகை தலைமை” (surrogate leadership) நிற்கிறது. எந்த உறுதியான முடிவையும் எடுக்க முடியாமல் துவண்டு, தேர்தல் களத்தில் மக்களை சந்திக்கக் கூட அது தயங்குகிறது. ”பதவிக்கு மட்டும் பிரதமர், அதிகாரத்திற்கு அல்ல” ( PM in office, not in power) என்று உலகின் மிகப் பெரிய ஜனநாயக நாட்டின் தலைமையைப் பற்றி சர்வதேசப் பத்திரிகைகள் வரை எழுதும் அளவிற்குக் கொண்டு சென்றுள்ளது. அரசாட்சி (governance) என்பதே நடக்கிறதா இல்லையா என்றே சந்தேகம் வரும் அளவில் இந்த அரசின் செயல்பாடுகள் இருந்துள்ளன.

”உறுபசியும், ஓவாப் பிணியும் செறுபகையும் சேராதியல்வது நாடு” என்று திருவள்ளுவர் என்கிற தமிழ் முனிவர் சொல்கிறார். இதில் ஒவ்வொரு விஷயத்திலும் உங்கள் அரசு தோல்வியைத் தழுவியுள்ளது.

Church Attacks, Conversions & Holy Fathers..

Faith Under Attack? Which Faith?

Times of India's detailed everday coverage of the recent Karnataka Church Attacks & the aftermath under the heading "Faith Under Attack" is intriguing. Maybe the intention behind the repeated use of the words "attack", "danger", "assault" and all that is to denote the damages to a few Churches by a few angry Hindu youth. Maybe these youth are from Bajrang Dal or some other organization or even a section of frustrated general public.

But I think, the phrase "Faith under attack" should ideally be used to denote the concerted Christian efforts involving ALL sects and Churches of India & their global masters at converting gullible and poor Hindus by overt and covert means. That is an attack, an aggresion, a war, an invasion of much higher and alarming proportions.

It is an open secret that these Church groups which are in focus now are part and parcel of aggressive global evangelist missions like the "Joshua Project". When some of them say "oh we dont do any conversion" in the Indian media, it is an utter lie and flies off their face - The details and facts speak for themselves. ALL global Christian evangelist websites openly declare India as their No.1 focus.

For example, "Joshua Project" even has a running counter of a large list of all Hindu castes in India that shows what % of each caste has become Christian, and that is proudly denoted as "progress". Analagous to "planting of bombs", they speak of doing "Church planting" in every nook and corner of India. The Times of India iteself carried a report "The Businees of Faith" (7 Sep 2008, By Amrita Singh, TNN) on this. The Churches "planted" this way - do they have any sanctitiy, sacredness or noble purpose associated with them? The correct description for them is aggression camps or fradulent shops.

Aggressors pretending as Victims

The so called "normal" Hindus who are "pained" by attacks on Churches by Hindu "mobs" who are converting Karnataka into a battleground better become aware of all this. It is the Christian missions who are converting parts of India into "battleground" in their impatient, Adharmic quest to convert the whole world into a "harvest ground" for Christianity. Great ancient nations and cultures like Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and even many parts of China are falling for them, unfortunately. Alas, these cultures, having lost their vigour and virility are falling a prey to the Christian evalengelization.

"Normal" Hindus, ask yourself - is that what you want to happen to Bharat Bhumi also? You better learn a bit about the track record of "peace loving" Christain missions all over the world - in Africa, In South America and parts of Asia. Has that been *any* different, other than the common results of destruction of native cultures, exploiting and impoverishment of native tribes, stifling of freedom and libetry, engineering of long lasting ethnic conflicts (like in Rwanda and in our own Orissa tribal belts) and capture of political power thru religion? We in India have seen the face of Christian terror for so long in the North East. For example, frustrated by not getting converts over decades, the Baptist Church of Tripura deliberately engineered ethnic conflicts in the 1980s that resulted in large scale conversions. The deep nexus between the Christian missions and North eastern terrorsit outfits (like NLFT and the Baptist Church of Tripura) is very well documented. (Book: PG Varghese, 'India 's North-East Resurgence: Ethnicity, Insurgency and Governance, Development ' 1996).

The initial physical attacks on Churches in Karantaka were violent. They are no doubt condemnable - whoever is the guilty should be arrested and punished in accrodance with the law. But viewing them with myopic "secular" eyes as just "yet another act by the fascist saffron Brigade" is either utter stupidity and igorance or deliberate act of omission. It is very surprising to see the so called "intellectuals" who are supposed to be well-read in the world history and current affairs view these just as "goonda acts" and NOT as a relatively mildly violent Hindu reaction given the curernt scale of Christian aggression on Hindu Dharma and society.

The attacks had one good result in that they intially sparked a much needed discussion and debate on the Christian evangelist missions in Karnataka - viz. their activities, motives, their sources of funds, their impact on the society and demography and their political agenda. But in the chorous of the shrieking noises by the Christian bodies posing as "victims" and the overt Christian-appeasing acts by the Central govt. and the state opposition parties, the real issue abt Christian evangelization and conversion is now deliberately being pushed to the back seat.

Going by the facts and details of the reports about the later "attacks", particularly the burglary/intrusion in two Bangalore Churches, a strong suspicion arises whether these are stage managed shows by the Christian bodies themselves to increase the pitch of their "victimhood" stories. Given the track record of Christian groups in India and the world over, they are very adept at this. We have not forgotton the over-hyped stories about "murders" of Christian priests in Gujrat and "rapes" of nuns in MP a few years back none of which were real incidents but concocted stories deliberately propagated by the Christian missions. This has to be borne in mind.

Acts of folly by the Holy Fathers

The Karnataka state government has handled the issue really well. The Managalore police maintained extreme restraint even at the grave provocation of attacks by Christian protesters from Churches and cemetries.

The public snubbing of Karnataka Chief Minister by the Bangalore Archbishop in the full glare of the media is a highly condemnable and an utterly cheap act. What authority does the Archbishop have that he dares to humiliate the Honourable Chief Minister, that too when the CM has come as a guest to Bishop's house? Is this the "Atithi Satkar" that his Christian Values have taught him?

The Archbishop is really out of his mind, "Attacks worse than terrorism" he thunders in Times of India (24 Sep 08, Bangalore edition). Pray God, can he or anyone explain what that means? These skirmish attacks in which none died or even injured, in his view, are *worse* than terrorism that killed close to thousand Indian citizens, including our brave soldiers and policemen - What kind of Indian is this guy? Does he have any sense of belonging to this country and its people? I can understand his affections for the religion and the "Blessed sacrement", but such a statement?

Probably The Archbishop takes all his orders from Vatican and values them even more than the interests of the nation he is born into and its constitution. In that sense, he is just a lowly stooge of Pope, a tinpot dictator sitting in his Christian banana republic and exhorting his followers all over the world... And he makes faces and gets agitated in front of a well-respected and beloved person of Karnataka, a person holding the democratically elected highest office of the State govt.! His master dares to summon the Indian envoy in Vatican and questions about some small incidents happening in some states of India ! What an arrogance - so befitting to the religion of aggression that these holy men seek to propagate!

Conversion - is that all that is to your religion, Bishop?

Another perl of wisdom from Rev. Bernard Moras - "conversion is a relationship between God and human being. if it is under duress, I will not call that person a Christian" (TOI, 24 Sep 08). Its really neat, I think... he said it so clearly in his own words - The relationship between God and man - the pivot of his religion is not Bhakti or Prem (love), not Jnana (spiritual quest), not Seva (service), not Sadhana (divine practices) or any such thing - it is *conversion*.. If the idea of "conversion" is removed from the Christianity that he practices and preaches, there will be nothing left ! Conversion is both the means and end to such evangelical Christianity which is what *most* of Indian Christians are into, unfortunately, with very few exceptions of truly spiritual and worship-oriented Christian sects.

And there are theological reasons to it. Sitaram Goel, famous Scholar and a great historian observes -

"The Vedic tradition advises people to be busy with themselves, that is, their own moral and spiritual improvement. Several disciplines have been evolved for this purpose tapas (austerity), yoga (meditation), jñAna (reflection), bhakti (devotion), etc. A seeker can take to (adhikAra) whichever discipline suits his adhAra (stage of moral-spiritual preparation). There is no uniform prescription for everybody, no coercion or allurement into a belief system, and no regimentation for aggression against others.

The Biblical tradition, on the other hand, teaches people to be busy with others. One is supposed to have become a superior human being as soon as one confesses the *only true faith*. Thenceforward one stands qualified to *save* others. The only training one needs thereafter is how to man a mission or military expedition, how to convert others by all available means including force and fraud, and how to kill or ruin or blacken those who refuse to come round."

The whole meaing of freedom to relgious conversion has to be understood in such a theological context. There is an ocean of difference between religions that just accept converts that come by naturally (Hinduism, Buddhism) and cults which have conversions as their main goal, aiming not for any liberation of individual but for dominance and power (Christianity, Islam).

The Indian Christian missions should realize that slogans like "Nagaland for Christ", "Karantaka for Christ" and the biggie one, "India for Christ" should all be rejected outright for the well being of Indian nation, with its grand and beautiful legacy of religious diversity from time immemorial. They should start respecting other religions and stop the conversion activities. Otherwise such "missionary position" that is not just dull, uninspiring and boring :)), will also continue to pose great danger to the the social harmony and freedom in India. And thats true for the world at large, too.

School shut-down by Christian bodies to protest Orissa events: highly unethical and a political blakmail

Today, On 29th August all Christian schools in India remained closed to heed to the call given by Catholics Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), apparently to "peacefully" protest the violent attacks on Christians and Churches in Orissa. Some Christian groups have gone to the extent of demanding President's rule in Orissa making shrill noise abt "safety for their lives" in "this" country.

Violence by anyone for any reason is not justifiable in a civil and democratic society like ours. But, let us put the facts straight. There is a palpable Hindu anger behind the recent happenings in Orissa. The brutal murder of 84 years old Swami Laxmanananda and 4 innocent Hindus at the night of Krishna Janmashtami at the hands of more than 25 armed thugs who barged into his Ashram literally shook the state and the nation like. After all, Swamiji was a highly respected Hindu monk, Guru, a great social worker and also a VHP leader in the Christian-missionary-ravaged tribal belt of Kandhmal district of Orissa. He had been rendering yeoman service to the tribals of the area for more than 25 years that earned him such reverance and affection, and also the wrath of the missionary-mafia which was out to establish its aggression and dominance over the region.

Gory details about Swamiji's murder

The intial statements from the state govt. that the murder was by Maoists was not taken by anyone, including the Maoists who denied it. Because, there were more than 8 attempts in the past to kill Swamiji, *all* by militant Christians in the area and there was a perennial threat to his life. To add credibility to the well-grounded suspiscion, police arreseted 3 suspects after the murder, all associated with Christian bodies.

Background of the Christian vs Hindu-tribal conflict in Kandhamal district

It is highly deplorable that these details are totally blacked out in the media stories that contain high pitch reporting about the burning of Churches and attacks on Christians. This creates a baseless impresion in the minds of an average citizen that all this violence was started by Hindus unprovoked.

We have to view the move by Christian bodies to shut all the schools under their control in this context.

It is highly unethical on their part to exploit their hold on Educational institutions for a clearly political and communal mobilization like this one, that aims to streotype all Hindus of Orissa as militant and aggressors. Quite a few of these institutions are "Christian", purely because of their British colonial legacy, which the post-Indepedance "secular" govts. and the citizens of this country have allowed to continue without questioning. Many of them even recieve grants and patronage by the govt at present and are bound by the laws that govern such bodies. Plus, the majority of the students and teachers of these schools are all Hindus from whom the schools recieves work, support as well as money in terms of fees and donations.

On what grounds, do the Christian bodies claim legal or moral right to "force" such a shutdown on their staff and students? Even if they organize a purely political protest march such as this in the school premises and make it "optional" for students to participate, that is highly questionable. But they have gone several steps overboard, confident that gullible Hindus who work and study in the schools will never raise their voice against this and nor will the govt or media question this blatant transgression. This is using one sort of "power" to force their version of opinion on the society, eventhough it is rooted in falsehood and shady grounds, to gain another sort of "power". It is nothing short of a political blackmail of the worst kind.. and its a cruel joke for such groups to call themselves as 'service' missions.

It is a dangerous state of affairs that a religious group can *stage* such an act in this country, without having to answer anyone. It is a shame on media, that it just reports this as yet another news, without pointing out the ugly agenda.

Another thing to note. We have come a very long way from the days of the British and Chrisitian missions are not at all the whole and sole providers of education in this country. The govt. and other private institutions far outnumber the Christian ones today. In fact, the biggest Education NGO in the country today is NOT any Christian group, but Vidya Bharathi, a Hindu organisation. If you count all Hindu Educational intitutions in the country (that includes the ones by Sangh Parivar affliated ors, various Maths and Ashrams, Temple bodies, spiritual leaders, local NGOs and various other trusts), that would far outnumber the Christian ones. Currently all these Hindu schools are totally apolitical - they impart neutral, secular education, with probably a small dosage of basic Hindu cultural values.

Hindus better learn such political tactics from the precedent set by Christians in this regard and show their real "power", whenever and wherever Hindus are attacked and Hindu human rights are compromised. If the state of affairs continue this way, it will not be long before we are forced into such a situation.

The irresponsible Indian Home Minister: Sack him

See this: Patil links Afzal to Sarabjit; BJP says 'nonsense'.

It appears that minister Shivraj Patil does not have a clue of even the most basic details of both the cases.

AFZAL is an *Indian* citizen, sentenced to death by the *Indian* "Supreme court" after extensive investigations and proceedings and appeals, for the crime of waging war against India by attacking the Indian parliment and killing Indian policemen on duty. He has been treated in a dignified manner in the Indian prisons for 4 years. He himself accepts the crime and asks for "sympathy" as part of his clemency petition... And remember, India is a secular, democratic country, known for its reasonably impartial Justice system.

SARABJIT is an *Indian* citizen, about to be hanged by the *Pakistani* government based on frivolous charges, after trial by just lower courts with no options for any appeal at any level, most probably in a case of mistaken identity, for one "Man singh" who was allegedly involved in some bomb blasts in Pak. He has been tortured in the Paki jails for more than 18 years... And Remember Pakistan is a rouge Islamist Jihadist state ruled by a dictatorship, with horrible record of Judiciary and of treating its own non-Mulsim minorities, particularly Hindus.

Where is the comparison, Mr. Home Minister?
Do you also mean to say that, in case if Pak. govt. gives clemency to Sarbajit, should India *free* all the Jihadi terrorists it has captured?

With a home minister like this, is there any surprise that Islamist bombs are exploding all over India and killing patriotic, innocent Indian citizens?

BJP should not just stop with calling this "nonsense". They should press for this guy to be sacked.

Save Vivekananda House, Chennai from DMK Govt. hostile takeover

Those famililar with the city of Chennai will know that Vivekananadar Illam (or V.House, in short) on the banks of Marina beach is one of the not-to-miss landmarks of the city.

It was in this heritage building (called Castle Kernan at that time and later Ice House) that Swami Vivekananda stayed during his historic visit to Chennai in Feb, 1897, after his victorious tours of the US and Europe. Swamiji delivered some of his finest and most inspiring speeches from this very building.

As a tribute to this great son of India, govt. leased this building in Feb 1997 (centenary of Swamiji's Chennai visit) to Ramakrishna Math, upon Math's request. RK Math put a beautiful permanant exhibition about Hindu culture and Swami Vivekananda's life, at the cost of one crore. Most visitors to the beach also come to V.House, enjoy and learn from the exhibition and also pay their respects to Swamiji's life-size statue installed there.

The lease was to expire in the next 2 yrs, The Math was planning to extend it for another 30 years. But now the DMK govt. has issued a sudden *3-day* notice to the Math to vacate the builiding immediately by Apr-24! The govt officials have also started pressurizing the Math.

Reason? Govt. wants to set up a "classical Tamil center" at this place, which govt. claims will promote academic study and research of classical Tamil works. The govt. has hinted it may even demolish the century-old building for this purpose.

Well, nobody would oppose such a center. But why is the govt *so* bent upon this particular heritage building for this purpose, that has Swamiji's footprints? The govt. can always set up a new building in any place in Chennai for this purpose !

It is very clear that the anti-Hindu DMK govt. wants to erase the famed memory of Swami Vivekananda from the Chennai's landscape. But by cunningly using the name of "Tamil", DMK thinks it can silence any opponents of such a move. But its not working, as many opposition parties, including ADMK and Sarathkumar's party have condemned the govt's move.

Power Gurus and Hindutva : "The Week" story

Here is my letter to The Week, regarding their recent cover story "The Power Gurus" .

Dear Editor,

Whatever maybe the motives behind this cover story, please accept my compliments for such a wide coverage. Your story will serve to highligh the need for Hindu Gurus to be concerned not just about the Hindu religion and spirituality, but also the challenges, pains and aspirations of the Hindu society. Needs that cover politics as well as social reforms. This time around, such "alerts" will not make the Gurus and their followers to move away from the social mobilization, as many in the "secular" side would wish, but will hopefully serve as further impetus to get deeper and broader into it.

The interview with Mata Amritanandamayi is a gem. Thank you for publishing the full text version as well. To a leading question on the difference between Hinduism and Hindutva, her answer ".. selflessly serving one's nation and its people is Hindutva" conveys a divine blessing and reassurance for countless Hindutva activists across the world, including those inside and outside the Sangh Parivar.

The perspective of Koenraad Elst that Hindutva does find very many vibrant experssions and is not just confined to the grand old, elephantine organisation called RSS is very refreshing. RSS leadership should take his harsh criticism in the right sprit, as a doctor's prescription, as Elst, the author of "Decolonizing the Hindu mind" deeply knows the symptoms of the diseases that ail the self alienated Hindu society.

பா.ஜ.க தலைவர் அத்வானி உள்நாட்டு பாதுகாப்பு, தீவிரவாதத்தை நேர்கொள்வதில் இப்போதைய அரசின் தோல்விகள் இவற்றை முன்னிறுத்தி நாடு முழுவதும் 13 இடங்களில் பேரணிகள் நடத்தப் போவதாக அறிவித்திருந்தார். இந்நிலையில் தாவூத் இப்ராகிம் உள்ளிட்ட இஸ்லாமிய தீவிரவாதிகளிடமிருந்து தற்கொலைப் படைத் தாக்குதல்கள் உள்ளிட்ட பல விதங்களிலும் அவரது உயிருக்கும், குஜராத் முதல்வர் நரேந்திர மோடி உயிருக்கும் ஆபத்து இருப்பதாக தேசிய பாதுகாப்பு ஆலோசகர் நாராயணன் அறிவித்தார். இது வழக்கமான எச்சரிக்கை மட்டுமல்ல, உளவுத்துறையால் உறுதி செய்யப்பட்ட தகவல் என்பதால் பா.ஜக இந்தப் பேரணிகளை தீவிர மறுபரிசீலனை செய்யவேண்டும், தேவைப்பட்டால் ரத்து செய்யவும் வேண்டும் என்று எடுத்துரைக்கப் பட்டது. மோடி மற்றும் அத்வானிக்கு அளிக்கப் படும் பாதுகாப்பு ஏற்பாடுகள் பலப்படுத்தப் படும் என்றும் செய்திகள் கூறுகின்றன.

அரசுத்துறையின் தகவல்கள் உண்மையாகவே இருக்க வேண்டும். பாஜக பேரணியை மத்திய அரசு குலைக்கப் பார்க்கிறது என்று சில கட்சித் தலைகள் பேசும் அற்ப அரசியலை ஒதுக்கி விடலாம். ஆனால் இதன் மூலம் அத்வானி மேற்கொண்டிருக்கும் பிரசாரம் எந்த அளவுக்கு அத்தியாவசியமானது, உண்மையானது என்பது நிரூபிக்கப் பட்டு விட்டது. இந்த தேசத்தின் இறையாண்மை, சுதந்திரம், முன்னேற்றம் இவற்றின் மீது விடாமல் போர்தொடுத்து வரும் ஜிகாதி தீவிரவாதத்தை எதிர்த்து பிரசாரம் செய்வது என்பதே அபாயகரமான செயலாக ஆகிவிட்டிருக்கிறது. அதுவும், நாட்டின் எதிர்க்கட்சித் தலைவருக்கே இந்த நிலைமை என்றால் சாதாரண மக்கள் என்ன செய்ய முடியும்?

முட்டாள் தனத்திற்காக ஒரு சாராரால் கேலிசெய்யப் பட்டாலும் “நாம் அவர்களை சாம்பலாக்குவோம்” (We will smoke ‘em out) என்று தீவிரவாதிகளுக்கு முஷ்டியை மடக்கிக் காட்டி அதைச் செய்தும் காட்டும் கௌபாய் ஜார்ஜ் புஷ் போன்ற துணிவும், உறுதியும் வாய்ந்த அரசியல் தலைமை நமக்கு வாய்க்கவில்லை தான். அதற்காக விதியை நொந்துகொள்வோம். ஆனால் இந்த பலகட்சி, பல கொள்கை ஜனநாயக நாட்டில், ஜிகாதி தீவிரவாதத்தைப் பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்ச்சியை மக்களிடையே உண்டாக்கி, அதை ஒரு அரசியல், தேர்தல் பிரசினையாக்குவதற்குக் கூட முதல் கட்டத்திலேயே முட்டுக்கட்டை போடும் அளவுக்கு இந்த தீவிரவாத வலைப்பின்னலின் ஊடுருவல் இருக்கிறது என்பது வெட்கக் கேடான விஷயம்.

இந்திய விளையாட்டு ரசிகர்கள் ஆவலுடன் எதிர்பார்த்திருந்த “பெங்களூர் ஓபன்” போட்டிகளில் விளையாடப் போவதில்லை என்று டென்னிஸ் இளம்புயல் சானியா மிர்சா அறிவித்து ஒரு பெரிய குண்டைப் போட்டிருக்கிறார். இது மட்டுமல்ல, இனிமேல் இந்தியாவுக்காக வெளிநாடுகளில் விளையாடுவேன், இந்தியாவில் எங்குமே தைரியமாக விளையாடுவதற்கான சூழல் இல்லை என்றும் கூறியிருக்கிறார்.

டென்னிஸ் வீராங்கனைகளுக்கே உரிய கச்சிதமான பாவாடையை அவர் அணிவது இஸ்லாமுக்கு எதிரானது என்று லக்னோவிலிருந்து லாலாபேட்டை வரை ஒரு முல்லா, மௌல்வி விடாமல் பிரசாரம் செய்து முடித்தாயிற்று. இந்த “ஹராமை” அவர் தொடர்ந்து செய்து வருவதற்கு எதிராக பல ஃபத்வாக்களும் விடப் பட்டிருக்கின்றன. அவர் போகுமிடங்களில் எல்லாம் இது பற்றிக் கேள்விகள் கேட்கப் பட்டு அவரை சங்கடத்திலும், அசௌகரியத்திலும் ஆழ்த்துகிறார்கள். இது போதாதென்று ஹைதராபத் மசூதி ஒன்றின் பின்னணியில் அவர் ஒரு விளம்பரப் படத்தில் நடித்தார் என்பதற்காக அவர் மீது வழக்குகள், மிரட்டல்கள். (அந்தப் புகைப் படத்தைப் பார்த்தால் அதில் மசூதி எங்கோ தூரத்தில் இருக்கிறது - அதற்கே இந்தக் கூப்பாடு). இந்த முரடர்கள் விளையாட்டு மைதானத்தில் வந்து ஏதாவது பைப் குண்டுகளை வீசி எறிந்து விட்டால் என்ன செய்வது என்று சானியா உண்மையிலேயே கவலைப் படுவதாகத் தெரிகிறது.

இத்தனைக்கும் சாதாரண முஸ்லீம்கள் சானியா போன்று ஒரு துடிப்பான, அழகான விளையாட்டு வீராங்கனையை தங்கள் ‘icon” ஆக நினைப்பதில் பெருமைப் படுகிறார்கள். பல முஸ்லீம் கடைகள், வாகனங்கள், நிறுவனங்களில் அவரது குறுகுறு எழில்முகத்தை ப்ளோ அப்களில் பார்க்கிறேன். இத்தகைய வெகுஜன அங்கீகரித்தல்கள் தரும் தைரியத்தை விட சில முட்டாள் முல்லாக்களின் பயமுறுத்தல்களும், அவற்றை நிறைவேற்றும் தீவிரவாத குழுக்களும் ஒரு உலகத்தரம் வாய்ந்த வீராங்கனையை முடக்கிப் போடும், நசுக்கும் அவலம் இந்த நாட்டில் நிகழ்கிறது.

அயன் ராண்ட் தமது Atlas Shrugged நூலில் ஒரு சுவாரசியமான கற்பனையை முன்வைக்கிறார். திறமைசாலிகள், சாதனையாளர்கள், பெரும் கனவுகளைக் காண்பவர்கள் (dreamers of dreams) தங்கள் திறனும் ஊக்கமும் முடக்கப் படும் சூழலில், அதை எதிர்த்து வேலை நிறுத்தம் செய்தால் என்ன ஆகும் என்று. சாதனையாளர்களை நசுக்கும் தேசம் அவர்களால் புறக்கணிக்கப் பட்டு, பாழ்படும்.

நேற்று பிப்ரவரி-6 புதன் அன்று ஜபல்பூரில் அத்வானியின் முதல் பேரணி நடந்து முடிந்திருக்கிறது. பாராளுமன்ற தாக்குதல் குற்றவாளி அப்சலை ஏன் இன்னும் தூக்கில் போடவில்லை என்பது உள்ளிட்ட பல கேள்விகளோடு இந்தப் பிரசாரம் தொடங்கியிருக்கிறது. அத்வானியின் அனைத்துப் பேரணிகளும் சில தேதி மாற்றங்களுடன் முன்பு அறிவிக்கப் பட்ட படியே திட்டமிட்ட எல்லா இடங்களில் நடைபெறும் என்ற அறிவிப்பு இந்த இருளில் ஒரு ஒளிக்கீற்றாக வந்திருக்கிறது.

இதே போன்று சானியாவும் தன் முடிவை மாற்றிக் கொள்வாரா? சானியாவின் உரிமைகள் நிலைநாட்டப் படுவது இந்த சுதந்திர நாட்டின் முதன்மையான கடமை.

Arundhati Roy's article on Genocide - some comments

My response to the article Listening To Grasshoppers by Arundhati Roy in Outlook Magazine, 4-Feb-08 issue.

That was a long and frustrating article by the erudite Arundhati Roy in a crisp and gripping language. But I wish the article also contained more truthfulness, honesty, neutrality, non-suppression of already known material and other such qualities as well.

It starts with her repeating the totally discredited theory of Nazi-ness of Hindutva based on 2-3 quotes from the obsolete and disowned “We, our nationhood defined” by Guru Golwalkar of the 1940s fame. These quotes were analyzed in-depth by Dr. Koenrad Elst in a detailed essay “Was Guru Golwalkar a Nazi?” in his book “The Saffron Swastika” and found echoing just the popular sentiments of the prevailing time and nothing more.. In fact the Communist praise at that time, for Hitler and Nazis would far outnumber these 3 quotes and will fill up a year worth of Outlook Issues! Will Ms. Arundhati call the CPI-M formed in the “mould of Nazis”, when there is a far stronger case for that??

Her listing of various RSS outfits among extension plans of its “evil ideology” will only evoke ridicule. The organizations like Vidya Bharati and Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram have been cited as glaring examples of selfless services even by the adversaries of RSS!

She goes all over the world to evoke heart rendering tales of genocide and destruction – from Ottoman Empire to 15th century butchering of Native Americans by the armies of Columbus to Africa to Australia. Very Good. Admirable.

But she miraculously forgets everything about the centuries of genocide that happened in her own country, her own backyard. The genocide of Hindus at the hands of Muslim aggressors and invaders. A genocide invoked by Will Durant in his “Story of Civilizations” in such strong words - “"...the Islamic conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history. It is a discouraging tale, for its evident moral is that civilization is a precious good, whose delicate complex order and freedom can at any moment be overthrown by barbarians invading from without and multiplying from within." A genocide, the very thought of which makes V.S.Naipaul call India as “wounded civilization”.

Let’s pardon the lady for her memory lapse about the medieval history. A good half of her article is devoted to the 2002 Gujarat riots (I seriously pity her struggling hard to fit the official UN “definition” of genocide to these grievous incidents), while she mentions the bigger, 1984 genocide of Sikhs by Congress goons in passing.. Great. But, what about the genocide and large scale displacement of Hindus of Kashmir valley that took place in between these 2 incidents? According to the official govt. figures there are about 5 lakh Hindus displaced from the Kashmir valley since 1990. An undisputed act of ethnic cleansing punctuated by the mass murders of Sangrampora, Jagatsingpura, Wandhama and Nandimarg (2003). The lady does not utter a single word about this. Her only usage of the word “Hindu” is to denote murderers and perpetrators of crimes.

Arundhati, is your heart so harsh, is your intellect so numb, and is your loyalty so dubious that you do not remember to mention even one event in history where Hindus are the victims?

Towards the end of the essay, you say, “Perhaps these many million Constraining Ghosts of the Past wonder what advice Gandhi would have given the Indians of the Americas, the slaves of Africa, the Tasmanians, the Herero, the Hottentots, the Armenians, the Jews of Germany, the Muslims of Gujarat…”

Don’t the Hindu victims of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kashmir, Fuji and other places even merit as one of the many items in such a customary list?

What have the Hindus done to you, Arundhati?

Hailing Indira killers as martyrs - Please, someone condemn SGPC

A highly condemnable, criminal and anti-national act by SGPC.

But it is evident that media is totally playing down on this news without giving adequate coverage. It appeared as a small news item in page 6 or 7 of Times of India today. BJP and the Hindutva groups are observing deathly silence. Congress is so numb to even dare a rebuttal - it probably does not want to antogonise Sikhs at this point, with Paaji Manmohan Singh at the helm.

Media deliberately and consciously avoids showing Sikh religious leadership in bad light even when it is involved in such an act.

Remember how media kept harping on the passing comment of another Vedanti, Mr. Ram Vilas Vedanti of Varanasi a few months ago? The one abt cutting Karunanidhi's toungue, as a punishment against TN CM's insult on Sri Rama. This was a simple intimidation by some lower rank individual in the VHP and the media trumpeted it as an example of "Hindu intolerance" for a long time, in spite of Vedanti retreating from it!

This act of SGPC, the highest body of Sikhs legmitises and sanctifies the killers of a former PM thru a religious ceremony, aimed at sowing the seeds of terrorism and separatism.

Super-appeasement of the Sikh fundamentalism by the media and all political parties, including the "anti-appeasement" BJP! This is a very, very dangerous precedent.

Please, someone condemn SGPC.

What Actually Happened in Orissa?

Here is an account of the Orissa incidents that I received from Sri. Ashok Sahu, IPS (Retd), Former Inspector General of Police. He is a valiant officer who fought insurgets in north east while at service and is an expert on Naxal groups, North east insurgency and Church-terrorist nexus.

Facts on 'Clashes among Christian Missionaries and the Tribals in Kandhamal District of Orissa'.

Reports of communal violence involving the converted Christians led by the Missionaries on one hand and the Tribals on the other, in Kandhamal District of Orissa by the media since 25 th December 2007 are vastly distorted and motivated which in public interest need beclarified much before the national image is tarnished before thegeneral public and the international community. The whole series of incidents started from unprovoked and preplanned attack on Vedanta Keshari Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati who was visiting his disciples in Darsingbadi village in Kandhmal District on 24 th December.

Swamiji, 82 years old has been working relentlessly in the District since 1967 to protect the local population where more than 75% are below thepoverty line and are not literate. He has opened schools and hostels, hospitals and temples to protect mainly the tribals and the down-trodden from the clutches of Missionaries who are operating with massive fund from foreign countries and pumped into NGOs in disguisedoperations to convert the local tribals into Christianity.

Chief of such NGOs is one 'WORLD VISION' patronized by one Mr. RadhakantaNayak, a local of Darsingbadi village from 'Pana' community but later got converted to Christianity. He happens to be an employee of the State Government promoted to the IAS and retired, and now a Member in the Rajya Sabha. His henchmen were the assailants who attacked Swamiji on 24 th December.

Meanwhile, the Kui tribals among the Kandhs in the District were agitating on the conspiracy by Mr. Nayak who is engineering forgetting a Presidential notification under the provisions of the Constitution, to get his 'Pana' community, who are scheduled castes relisted as scheduled tribe along with the Kui on the ground that the former also speak the Kui dialect. Various reservation facilities to which scheduled tribes are entitled are not available to persons converted to Christianity.

On hearing the assault news on Swamiji, the already agitated Kui community reacted and protested through out the district against the 'Pana' community converted to Christianity. Interestingly, the Maoist (Naxalites) activists in the district arealso mostly from among the recent converts to Christianity. Among 47 Maoists arrested in connection with recent burning of villages inhabited by Hindus ( Brahmanigaon, Jhinjiriguda, Katingia, and Godapur) as a counter to attacks by tribals on the Churches, 20 guns have been recovered by the security forces from them.

It is evidentthat the Maoists and the Church are hands in glove with each other to spread fratricidal killings and clashes among the tribals which is evident also from incidents in Karbi-Anglong and North Cachar Hills districts in Asaam. Conversions of poor tribal villagers are being conducted on gun point and by spreading terrorism.

While in active government service Mr. Radhakanta Nayak IAS (Retd.) and Mr. John Nayak IPS (Retd.) both converted Christians were instruments of the Church to proselytize the poor and illiterate'Pana' and tribal communities in Kandhamal district of Orissa. Under guise of NGOs thousands of dollars are pumped into the country for conversion of tribals in Jharkhand, Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh,Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and the North-East.



Taking advantage of the poverty and lack of education, thousands have been converted who are also being trained for separatist movements like NSCN in Nagaland and Maoist insurgency in the aforesaid states. This trend is more pronounced since 1970 which is evident from the census reports till 2001. In Kandhamal District alone the Christian population hasincreased from 6% in 1970 to 27% in 2001, despite an Act enacted by Orissa Legislature in 1967 to prevent conversion by allurement,coercion, bribery and cheating.

Swamiji has been fighting a lone battle by making the tribal district his home for last 40 years, who has been targeted by the Church to finish him off. Earlier to the recent attack, there were two other lethal attacks on Swamiji in 1971 and 1995. Since then the government has provided armed protection to Swamiji. Inspite of that, he was attacked by armed assailants on 24 December 2007 in which he and his driver and armed security personnel were seriously injured and hospitalized in Cuttack Medical College Hospital.

Hence, the recent clashes manifest the various ramificationsof the socio-economic, political and cultural tribal issues and the deep-rooted conspiracy by the Church to destabilize our society and our economy . Let the Nation awake and protect our tribal brethren and the national media stop distorting the facts.

Taslima, Gujrat, freedom, secularists… and shame

When the Islamist cowards were buring Kolkata from the bylanes last week, crying for the expulsion of Taslima Nasreen, with the hapless Leflist government unable to control them, I had suggested that Gujrat, the Indian state that stands for growth, freedom and liberty should voluntarily welcome her and offer her residence and protection. I had requested some of my friends in the BJP to take this suggestion to Narendra Modi, Gujrat CM.

With the news of central government lodging the Bengali writer in “undisclosed locations” and the shocking rumors of the government asking her to leave the country trickling in, Narendra Modi has welcomed her to Gujrat in a public meeting yesterday, in his first election meeting. I am only too happy to know this.

Kudos to him. Modi, you have made India proud. You have made us feel that we are indeed the land of the free and home of the brave.

"If the Centre lacks the courage to give security to her, then I have the courage. Send Taslima to Gujarat. The youngsters of Gujarat are keen to provide security to her."

"Bangladeshis are staying in lanes and bylanes of this country but no one is ready to evacuate them. Taslima, who is a writer exercising freedom of expression, is being harassed by fundamentalists."

.. She is a woman who is fighting for the truth. By giving her protection, the government should have set an example of the glorious tradition of India."

Well said, Narendra bhai. Taslima, the writer not only stands for staunch feminism, free thinking and her bold statements against Islamic fundamentalists in literary prose, but also for daring to expose the untold atrocities against Hindu minorities by the Muslim fundamentalists of Bangladesh, the fundamentalists in the government, politics and society. In that sense, she is also a brave champion of Hindu human rights.

The Leftists and the pseudo secularists of this nation stand exposed in their ugly nakedness, when they surrender the spirit of freedom and liberty to the bullying of law breaking Muslim mobs and rowdyism. What a shame! The shame is manifold than Taslima’s anguish in ‘Lajja’ when Niranjan’s family helplessly moves out of Bangladesh into India.

A hundred years ago, Sri Aurobindo wrote,

"The idea that by encouraging Mohmmedan rowdyism, the present agitation may be put down, is preposterous; and those who cherish this notion forget that the bully is neither the strongest nor the bravest of men; and that because the self-restraint of the Hindu, miscalled cowardice, has been a prominent feature of his national character, he is absolutely incapable of striking straight and striking hard when any sacred situation demands this."

Has anything changed? Same rowdyism. Same reaction from the spineless secularists.

What really has Taslima done to derive such anger from Muslims? She has not written anything offensive or insulting against that holy camel of Islamists, their Prophet or their holy Q Book. She has even spoken against stereotyping of Islamic scriptures as anti-women, calling for reinterpretation of Quran verses.

It was her courage to expose the institutionalized Islamic cruelty against Hindus in Bangladesh that earned her fatwas that demanded her head. This very expose was labeled as “anti-Islamic stand”. And the likes of her heart-rendering account of chilling acts of Islamic cruelty in “The Bangla Crescent” (A docu film by Mayank Jain) - “12 year old Gauri was raped in front of her mother, and then the mother was raped in front of Gauri, again and again..”

So, what are *Indian Muslims* protesting against her for?? That, she exposed the true face of an Islamic society and government in dealing with the minorities, in *Bangladesh*? And what are the political parties in India supporting these zealots' demands for?

Sitaram Yechury has accused BJP of “double standards” in the cases of Taslima and MF Husain. The nasuating debates about “freedom of expression” applied to both cases makes one puke. This, after Taslima herself quoting Husain’s safety and well being as a counter example against what is happening in her case!

Husain depicted the images of Hindu Gods and Goddesses in nude and sexually perverted ways that will quality as offensive in the eyes of any neutral observer. He justified this in the name of Artistic freedom (which, I think is subtly different from “freedom of speech” that relates to facts and realities of life, not just art)… and here too he was not honest, as he depicted Islamic women in a fully clothed and “dignified” manner. When questioned about this, he chose to mock at the criticism and refused to accept his hurting of Hindu sentiments.

But for one small scale attack on one of Husain’s studios, all that the Hindu activists (and numerous simple Hindu individuals, not connected to any groups) have done is to file cases against him in various courts in India. And the courts have admitted all these cases, as they are credible under various sections of Indian laws. In what better dignified manner can civilized people register their protest in a democratic nation?

But the “brave” Husain, anticipating long drawn legal battles where his “artistic freedom” will be scrutinized, does not want to return to India from UK. He makes long faces in public and laments about the “treatment” meted out to an Artist of his caliber in his homeland. And our secularist friends want Hindus to *withdraw* all the cases *voluntarily* so that the offending artist is spared from the legal proceedings, unconditionally. The never-hesitating-to-bow-to-Muslim-mobs secularist friends!

What an unbiased, neutral and impeccably honest secularist yardstick !

Now pray, tell me, who has “double standards” here? The Hindu activists or the secular brigade? Who should hang their heads in shame?
